The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announces the availability of four new products for the treatment of stimulant use disorders, the Matrix Intensive Outpatient Treatment for People with Stimulant Use Disorders package. The products are based on the treatment interventions tested in SAMHSA's Methamphetamine Treatment Project and provide information on implementing nearly a full year of treatment with the Matrix approach. The products integrate treatment elements from several approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, family education, and mutual-help (12-Step) program involvement. The products in the Matrix Intensive Outpatient Treatment package are-

* Counselor's Treatment Manual-Contains information necessary for conducting individual and group sessions in an outpatient setting with clients who are dependent on stimulants. Topics include early recovery skills, relapse prevention skills, social support, an introduction to the Matrix approach, the role of drug testing, and strategies for handling difficult situations in group settings. Session objectives, talking points, and client information reproduced in the Client's Handbook are included.
NCADI Publication No.: BKD546

* Client's Handbook-Accompanies the Counselor's Treatment Manual and contains a brief introduction for clients about what they can expect from treatment as well as all the handouts in the Counselor's Treatment Manual. The handouts reinforce the session content presented by the counselor and help clients become active participants in their treatment.
NCADI Publication No.: BKD548

* Counselor's Family Education Manual and CD with PowerPoint Presentations-Includes instructions for presenting 12 family educational sessions and uses a psychoeducational approach for clients and their
families and friends. Session formats are multifamily discussion, panel presentation, and slide presentation/discussion. Topics include methamphetamine dependence, other drug and alcohol use, treatment, recovery, and the ways in which families are affected by a family member's drug use. The package includes handouts for photocopying and a CD-ROM that contains PowerPoint slide presentations.
NCADI Publication No.: BKD547

* Client's Treatment Companion-Contains useful recovery tools and concepts and can be used as a journal. This pocket-sized book has space for clients to record inspirational thoughts and write short phrases that help them resist triggers.
